Other Proposition

Serobid® Inhaler is manufactured by Cipla. The inhaler contains the active substance Salmeterol, a selective, long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist that provides relief for up to 12 hours. The medicine prevents asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema, alleviating symptoms like chest tightness, wheezing and shortness of breath. Serobid® Inhaler works with a slow onset and long duration of action and is suitable for managing exercise-induced asthma and nocturnal symptoms in asthma (such as a nighttime cough). The inhaler is a preventive medicine, therefore is not effective when asthma attack has already begun.

- asthma;

- emphysema;

- chronic bronchitis.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Salmeterol contained in Serobid® Inhaler is a highly selective, long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist with bronchodilatory activity. Its long, lipophilic side chain binds to the exosite near beta2-adrenergic receptors in the lungs and on bronchiolar smooth muscle, allowing the active portion of the molecule to remain at the receptor site and continually engage and disengage with the receptor, therefore providing a long duration of action. Beta2 receptor stimulation in the lung causes relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle, bronchodilation, and increased bronchial airflow.

Serobid® Inhaler is for the oral inhalation route only. For those patients who have difficulties with synchronizing aerosol actuator and inspiration of breath can take the medication with the help of a Zerostat / Zerostat VT Spacer device.

- Adults and children over 4 years of age: 50 mcg (one inhalation) twice daily (approximately 12 hr apart).

Bronchospasm Prophylaxis:

- Adults and children over 4 years of age: 50 mcg (one inhalation) at least 30 min before exercise.

Q: What is Serobid® Inhaler used for?

A: The inhaler is used to treat and manage asthma and to help relieve symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. It is also useful in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis. As Serobid® Inhaler works with a slow onset and long duration of action, it is particularly suitable for managing exercise-induced asthma and nocturnal symptoms in asthma. However, the medication should not be used to relieve acute asthmatic symptoms, for which a faster acting (within 5 minutes) inhaled bronchodilator should be taken.

Q: How often should Serobid® Inhaler be used?

A: You should use your inhaler according to the instructions provided. The number of puffs you take of every day should be as recommended by your doctor and depends on your condition. The usual dosage is 2 puffs (inhalations) twice a day, morning and evening. This dose may be increased for severe asthma. Do not take more puffs than recommended by your doctor as this will increase the risk of side effects. You should feel the full benefit after the first few doses and the effect last up to 12 hours.

Q: Is Serobid® Inhaler safe to use during pregnancy?

A: The inhaler is not recommended during pregnancy and its usage should be considered only if the expected benefit to the expectant mother is greater than any possible risk to the fetus. Do not take the medication without consulting your doctor.
